Our mother tongue
" I've heard that Japanese people don't like to speak English because they value their mother tongue. Is that true? " I was asked by one lady from a Southern Asian Country.
What a shocking question it is.
I answered, "no it is not true." and I continued "we care Japanese language but many of us would like to speak English fluently."
She is an English teacher in her country, actually.
I was shocked to hear that such a story was spreading in the clubhouse! In the end, she understood what I explained. Which was good.
I'm surprised that being hesitant to speak up could cause such misunderstandings.
Dear shy Japanese people, please visit us and learn speaking English together.
