トーストマスターズクラブは
「英会話を安い会費で学べるところ」と、軽い気持ちで入会した人は多いと思います
私もその1人。
入会してみて、
「何やってるのかよくわからない」
「オフィサーって？何」
「堅苦しい」なんて思う人もいるはず。
私もその1人。
また、忙しい人々にとって、トーストマスターズのミーティングの準備をするのは
大変そうに見える。
「私にはやらなくてはいけない仕事があるのに。。。」
「私、なんでこんなことやっているんだろう？」
「こんな地味な作業をしていて、英語力がつくのか？」と思う日本人、多いはず。
私もその1人。
親の介護、家庭の事情でトーストどころではないと思って退会、再入会を繰り返した私。
家庭内が落ち着いて、英会話スクールより安いからと、またクラブに戻ってみると、
仲間の英語の進化を目の当たりにして「おぉぉぉぉぉ！」とスイッチが入る
しかし、それも束の間、役員の仕事やミーティングロールがシンドくなる。
一度ネガティブな気持ちが湧いてくると、よほどの成功体験でもない限り、
後ろ向きになってしまう
2015年に入会し、出たり入ったりしながら、結局、2019年までは、
どうやったら前向きな会員になれるのか全然わからなかった、というのが正直なところ。
しかぁし、
再び退会を考えていた私が、なんと2019年に、柏トーストマスターズクラブ（当時はKashiwa Advanced TMC) を立ち上げることになるという、驚きの展開。（この部分は端折りますが・・・）
立ち上げるって言ってもトーストマスターズのことをあまり知らなかった私は、ディストリクト主催のイベントにできるだけ参加してみました。
見えてくる世界がだいぶ変わりました。
結局、トーストマスターズクラブは、
みんなのボランティアワークのおかげで安い会費でたくさんの事が学べている
私はビジネスパーソンではないから、リーダーシップなんて関係ないと思っていたけれど、
先日、あるディレクターから「自分のリーダーになるためのリーダーシップを学ぶ」という言葉をいただき、「そうだ！これだ！」と思ったんです。
義理人情の世界、しがらみの世界、大変ですけど、そんな時、自分の心をひっぱっていける
リーダーは、自分しかいないでしょ！ と思ったんです。
かつてマライアキャリーが歌った”Hero”,ご存知でしょうか？
歌詞のbest partである ”A hero lies in you.”は、ウルウルしちゃいます。
そう、自分の心の中にいるんです、リーダーは。
リーダーシップって言うと、今更、そんなもん身につける必要もないって思うけど、
いやいや、もぅ、毎日必要、自分の心の中のリーダー！
いいお言葉いただきました！
まだまだ、落ち込まない日はないものの
ちょっとした集まりなどで、何か話すよう求められると、ダメはダメなりに以前よりは話せます。過呼吸になったりもしない。
私の英語、支離滅裂。。。 という惨めな気分の自分に 私のヒーローが言うのです
「進みなさい、止まっちゃダメ」って。✨
トーストのお仕事は大変かもしれないけど、そのひとつひとつがあなたの心のヒーローを育ててくれるんです ♡
あなたを助けてくれるのは、あなたの中のヒーローです
Why did you join the Toastmasters club?
Because membership fee is cheap?
That’s one of my reasons.
After you joined the club, you felt that
you didn’t really know what we did,
and what officers were.
I was one of them.
And for busy people, preparing for a Toastmasters meeting is very tough.
You may have thought,
"Why am I doing this when I have another important work to do?
“Can I really improve my English while I'm playing these roles at a meeting?"
I was one of them.
I repeatedly went in and out because I was too busy with taking care of my family. After everything settled down, I was back because it was cheaper than general English conversation schools.
I realized that my friends’ English skills were improving. I was inspired by the fact.
But I was overwhelmed by an officer work and meeting roles. When it rained it pours, it was very difficult turn over a new leaf, anyway.
I became a member in 2015, after in and out, until, eventually, 2019.
I honestly had no idea how to become a diligent member.
But then...
I was thinking of leaving again, however, in 2019, I ended up starting the Kashiwa Toastmasters Club (Kashiwa Advanced TMC at that time). (I'll skip this part...).
I had to admit that I didn't know much about Toastmasters club when I started the club, so I attended as many District-sponsored events as I could.
My perspective has changed a lot.
Everyone works voluntarily in the toastmasters clubs as you know. That’s why we can learn many things in a low membership fee.
I am not a business person, so I didn't think leadership was relevant to me.
But a few months ago, one of the directors said, "Learn leadership to be your own leader," and I thought, "Yes! This is it!"
We sometimes struggles with bond.
A hero lies in you.
Do you know the song "Hero" by Mariah Carey?
Yes, your leader is in you.
When I say leadership, you may think that you don't need to learn such a thing now.
No, no, no, you need a leader in you every day!
Although I am still disappointed by my English, my hero says, "Keep going, don't stop." ✨
Toastmasters Club’s role may be tough, but every single one of them will help you grow a hero in your ♡.
And the hero will help you!
